Happy New Year!! It’s been a while since my last post… I’m having a great start of the year. As I was deprived from birding in the last few months from being busy with work, volleyball, botanical art and a photography show… I promised to myself to spend some time for birding during the holidays. It was refreshing to be out again even though the weather hasn’t be too cooperative. Yesterday was one of the best birding moment ever. As I was in my botanical art class I got a text from my neighbour saying that there is a tiny owl in our backyard. OMG OMG OMG! I looked at my teacher and said in front of the whole class that was about to have lunch, “Can I go, I have to go, I have an emergency, will be back in an hour!” My teacher didn’t have time to say anything, I grabbed my jacket and next thing you know I was speeding on Deerfoot. I parked the car, my heart was beating, I ran into the house, grabbed my camera and a memory card and ran outside. The tiny owl, Northern Saw-Whet Owl, was still sitting in the spruce tree…. It’s my lucky day I thought… and took about 600 shots! Then I spent a short time talking to him and watching him/her fall asleep…. I will remember this moment forever…

What a great story. And what a good neighbor
Thanks Kim! Me, you and Heather need to go shooting soon!
Amazing! Lighting is perfect.
Tell us more about the photo, what gear did you grab?
Looks like a chickadee in the photo too?
Yes he/she was holding on to a chickadee 😉
Best emergency ever! Glad you made it home before the owl left. The shots are amazing!
